Camping at Willow Creek

Home » Blog » Family » Camping at Willow Creek

We spent a 4-day weekend camping at Willow Creek Recreation Area in Pierce, NE with the Le’s. The weather was mild and not humid which isn’t typical of summer, plus there were no mosquitoes and we didn’t need bug spray. We usually eat too much when camping, but when “Restaurant Joe” goes, you know you are going to eat very well. We hadn’t camped with the Le’s for two years and it was a great time – and of course ate too much!

They were dog sitting for an American Bulldog named Lincoln who instantly became buddies with Peyton. They played great together and even Susie got into the action. Peyton had her “Wubba” at the beach and Lincoln was chasing her trying to get it, and they both plowed into the side of Susie’s leg. She was lucky to be standing on the soft sand and had bruises from her ankle to above her knee, but her knee was fine.

Thanks to Jen for taking some of the pictures.

Peyton loved fetching her Wubba in the lake. This was her fifth trip of the weekend to the beach and she was tired and moving slow. She swims some but still gaining her confidence and prefers to wade. Even when a lot of people are around, she sticks by us on the beach and doesn’t bother them.

This is from the last evening, Lincoln and Peyton didn’t have much energy left. They played hard the first two days and this was their last game of keep away.

This past Friday husband and I went to the arboretum that is at that lake. Have you walked around in there? There weren’t as many native plantings as I thought there would be, but we had a good time.

Are you talking about Gilman Park? If so, we went through it 2 years ago and also noticed the natives were lacking but the trees around the walk were impressive.
