Peyton’s First Therapy Visit

Susie wants Peyton to become a therapy dog but we still need to do some work before she’s ready to become certified. She is a well-mannered dog but does have some teenage moments at times. Grandma is rehabilitating at Life Care Center of Elkhorn and we saw that they have therapy dog visits. We asked if dogs needed to be certified therapy dogs to visit and they said any dog can visit as long as they are current on vaccinations. So this morning we took Peyton to visit Grandma to see how she would do…

She was excited when we got there which is expected being a new place with people and equipment she isn’t used to. She calmed down after about 10 minutes and was very well-behaved. About a dozen people petted her while she sat nicely and she did good with all the wheelchairs, noises and other distractions going on. For a first visit we couldn’t be happier and with some more work she’ll someday become certified and can go to many other places.

It is pretty powerful seeing how a dog can bring smiles and happiness visiting people in need. Good job Peyton!

We spent about 30 minutes outside and she settled nicely and ignored people going in and out.

We were there about 90 minutes and she had enough!
