We had never camped at Niobrara State Park and spent four nights there over Memorial weekend and really enjoyed it. It is a big park with a lot of hills and great views with a nice campsite at the bottom of it. We had some friends camping there and also met several new people. Our routine was pretty much the same every day – hike in the morning, have lunch at the campsite and relax, eat too much for dinner, then a campfire and beverages. On Wednesday before we left the weather forecast was 80% chance of rain all weekend but the weather was perfect and we didn’t get a drop. It was a nice relaxing weekend and we’re looking forward to going back next year.

Susie taking a pano with her phone before our first hike.

The hike started up high with great views.

You can see the steps that quickly descended.

Some good looking girls!

Taking a knee for pics was a bad idea as the ticks were quick to jump on.

The park has a lot of nice cabins.

After a day of hiking and chasing tennis balls, Peyton was done!

Dreaming of making dinner.

Susie having fun with the camera.

Corn, potatoes, onions, cabbage, chicken drumsticks and breasts – turned out great!

The second day’s hike was in the middle of the park.

There were a few ponds along the hike.

It went in and out of deep woods.

I forgot my hiking tripod but found a good place to get both of us.

Another pond on the hike.

It was a steep ascent back to the truck but we made it to the top of the hill.

Peyton got a lot of play time with the neighbor’s little girl. She would fetch both tennis balls and drop them for her.

The third day we hiked to the old RR bridge and along the river.

Going down wasn’t as steep as we expected.

We saw three juvenile Bald Eagles along the hike.

Hike along the river.

Susie looks thrilled about the path going back up!
